Del Sol String Quartet

Explore the culture of the Andes Mountains in an exciting evening of musical collaboration!

Gabriela Lena Frank is one of the leading composers of her generation; in addition to writing music for  Yo-Yo Ma, the San Francisco Symphony, and many more, she has received numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship as well as a Latin Grammy Award.  In a 3-part series of workshops, Frank teams up with the award-winning contemporary classical Del Sol String Quartet and Andean traditional ensemble Chaskinakuy.  Together they will explore what happens when the South American world of traditional music collides with contemporary North American classical music.

In Part 1, which takes place on November 9 at Intersection for the Arts, the audience will not only experience this incredible blending of cultures, accompanied by culinary regional delectables such as Pisco drinks and homemade alfajores (by the composer!), but also learn about the process of collaboration and experience brand-new, never-before-heard musical pieces!
